Disney World Vacation (Day Two) Magic Kingdom

4.9.18

I was looking forward to journaling about vacation on our room's patio in the crisp Florida morning/evening air.

Until Megan pointed out the sign in front of the pond.

It says: DANGER: ALLIGATORS AND SNAKES IN AREA

I feel like I'd see an alligator, but snakes are camouflaged,  slither, I am terrified of them, and down there they're not all fun-and-games.
I journaled at the table inside.

You may, or may not know, Nerd Dad has Multiple Sclerosis. A major symptom of my MS is fatigue from extended activity (or even just standing for too long), exacerbated by heat. Mowing the lawn in the summer is a struggle. My legs turn to JELL-O and I can't stand up or walk straight.
I'd read a blog by someone with MS who said that renting an electric scooter at Disney World saved their trip. I rented one every day we were at a park ($50 for the day), and I couldn't have made it without one.

We took a Lyft to the Magic Kingdom. I got my scooter upon entry, and took in the spectacle that is Disney World. There's a Main Street that takes you into the heart of the park where Cinderella's Castle is. There was a barbershop quartet outside the barber shop on Main Street.

Grandma was on the ball and booked Fast Passes for the popular rides as soon as was able (60 days before the trip). Each ride has a regular line with a display at the entrance of the line of how long the wait is. The wait times range from 5 minutes to 155 minutes for the newest and/or most popular rides. The Fast Pass line is next to the regular line, and you scan your magic band wrist device to go directly on the ride if you have a Fast Pass.

You book Fast Passes for an hour time block, and it can be used anytime within that hour. Once you use your first Fast Pass, you can modify the others that you have that day. You can book three Fast Passes 60 days out, and once they're all used, you can book one more at a time through the Disney app. We didn't wait in ONE line for a ride the whole time we were at Disney parks. Modifying and adding these Fast Passes through the Disney app was right up Nerd Dad's ally.

We saw the Disney parade at 15:00, and I was impressed at how the performers each give 100% all of the time. They're always in character, friendly, and there to make your day special - in the parade or just walking around the park.

All day long I craved a milkshake. I asked many vendors where I could get one. Most said the only place I could get one was at the ice cream shop on Main Street, which was always far away. The Magic Kingdom is huge, and you can't get anywhere in a hurry. I even parked my scooter at one point and made a dash for Main Street on foot, but only made it half-way before I got too frustrated and returned to my scooter. I knew we'd pass the ice cream shop on the way out of the park, so I exercised patience.

We ate dinner in Cinderella's Castle. This was an elegant dinner with Disney princesses going around to the tables to sign autographs snd take pictures. I think this was more for little girls than boys, but Ozzie's Disney crush: Jasmine from Aladdin was there. She took pictures with Ozzie, and kissed his autograph book.

I had the worst headache I've ever had at this dinner. I think it was from the sun in my eyes, and the heat all day. We passed the ice cream shop on the way out, and they didn't have milkshakes. The quest would continue. We left the park around 20:00. About 11 hours in the park today.
We ordered groceries from Amazon Prime Now to be delivered to our room to have breakfast food and snacks in our room before venturing out each day.

Tomorrow: Epcot
