Disney World Vacation (Day One)

Sunday 4.8.18

Megan (Mama), Ozzie (four-years-old), Ann (Grandma), and Nerd Dad got up early to get to the airport for our 8:00 departure to Orlando, FL. We told Ozzie about the trip at Christmas, and have been hyping it since. I was almost as excited as him to see Disney World for the first time. Mama and Grandma had been a few times before, but not for about 20 years.

As Ozzie was getting dressed I asked him if he'd like a granola bar. He said "No. I just want to eat breakfast in Disney World." 😍

We left a light on, packed my RAV4 with all of our luggage, and left home at 5:15. We checked our bags, and breezed through TSA Pre-check. Ozzie's first time on an airplane.

He got to meet the pilot and sit in the cockpit
Grandma surprised us on Christmas with an upgrade to first class for the flight there. Flying first class was a first for everyone, and it was slick. We got breakfast (coach didn't), all the drinks and snacks we wanted, and I was excited to watch Hidden Figures on the complimentary entertainment device, but the devices didn't make it onto the airplane.
No biggie. I got a complimentary box of Peanut M&Ms.

When we touched down in Orlando, we made our way to the Disney area to take the shuttle to our resort: Old Key West (OKW). We didn't have to go to baggage claim as our baggage would be delivered right to our room after we checked in. We got to OKW around 13:00 and couldn't check in until 16:00.

Luckily we had packed a change of clothes and swimsuits. We went to the pool to wait until we could check in. Our Disney Dining Plan (DDP) had already started. We each had one sit-down meal, one quick service meal and two snacks per day with the plan. If you didn't use them all in one day, they rolled to the next. We got a few quick meals by the pool. I 'm glad we had the plan so that I understand what it entails, but if I went again, I wouldn't get the DDP.

We we able to check into our room a little early, and we got ready for our sit-down meal at the buffet at the Contemporary resort: Chef Mickey. The buffet food was okay. The restaurant featured a bunch of Disney characters going around to each table to sign autographs (yes, Disney character autographs in Disney autograph books) and take pictures with kids, or anyone who wanted.

I tried each dessert because they all looked really good. They were all really bad.

We took the resort monorail to the Magic Kingdom to catch the free shuttle back to OKW. We'll get up early in the morning to get to the Magic Kingdom for "rope drop" (when they open).
